About Jackson Carey

Jackson Carey is an artist and ceramicist based in Toronto. He creates enchanting plant pots that blur the lines between art, nature and functionality. As a self proclaimed plant nerd, Jackson's pots are all designed with a deep consideration of the specific needs of various plants, especially carnivorous, semi-aquatic, and epiphytic plants. Drawing inspiration from the natural world (rock formations, waters edges, plant structures), his pots take on natural one-of-a-kind forms that bring animacy to any space.

Working Philosophy

Too often, we come to understand ourselves as separate from an externalized nature, creating environments that isolate us from the ancient systems we belong to. The sterilized spaces many of us move through and live in act as containers of disconnection from the rest of being. My work seeks to challenge this division and foster closer relations with our green relatives. Working with my hands, I aim to create objects that close the divide between ourselves and 'nature,' allowing space for us to re-tangle with our world.
